Pierre: A Cautionary Tale by Maurice Sendak was one of my favorite books as a kid. It’s about a boy who would only say “I don’t care” in response to everything his parents said to him until…well, I don’t want too many spoilers here!
Stuck at home here in Philadelphia during these strange coronavirus days–when I’m not working in the emergency department–Rob and I have found ourselves with a lot of downtime. We decided to do a reading of Pierre with accompanying music (playing with my Ableton Push) for our nieces and nephews!
After finishing it, I was curious about the author, Maurice Sendak, and googled him. Apparently he was a prolific author and illustrator who passed away in 2012, leaving a wealth of work as his legacy. Interestingly, I found out he was also gay and lived with his partner from 1957 to 2007 when his partner passed away. It felt like a nice connection for Rob and I to have enjoyed and participated in his story.
